Mediterranean — hot dry summers (Southern Hemisphere), mild wet winters

Cape Town has a classic Mediterranean climate but in the Southern Hemisphere — summers are December–February (hot and dry) and winters are June–August (cool and wet). The Cape Doctor (southeast wind) can make summer days dramatically windy. Table Mountain creates local weather patterns.

Olympia at the southern tip of Puget Sound is Washington's capital and the Evergreen State College's city. The South Sound position means the marine layer is somewhat weaker than central Puget Sound communities, but Olympia is still firmly Pacific Northwest with abundant rainfall and mild temperatures. The Deschutes River and Percival Cove provide water features.
