Cape Town has a classic Mediterranean climate but in the Southern Hemisphere — summers are December–February (hot and dry) and winters are June–August (cool and wet). The Cape Doctor (southeast wind) can make summer days dramatically windy. Table Mountain creates local weather patterns.

West Valley City is Utah's second-largest city, a suburban community west of Salt Lake City. In the valley bottom, it is fully impacted by the winter inversions that trap pollution. The city is diverse ethnically and is a major commercial and industrial hub for the Salt Lake Valley.
