Cleveland on Lake Erie's southern shore has one of the US's most lake-influenced climates. Lake Erie produces substantial lake-effect snow when Arctic air crosses the lake, and the city is also famous for dramatic summer thunderstorms. Lake Erie warms fastest of the Great Lakes, which means extreme lake-effect events in fall before the lake freezes.

San Francisco's climate is shaped by its position on a peninsula surrounded by the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay. The coastal fog (Karl the Fog) rolls in through the Golden Gate each summer afternoon, keeping temperatures mild year-round. The city has dramatically different microclimates — the Sunset District fog-bound while the Mission basks in sun on the same day.
