Davenport on the Mississippi River is the largest of the Quad Cities, straddling the Iowa-Illinois border. The mighty Mississippi provides a significant weather boundary — temperatures, fog, and humidity patterns differ markedly on each riverbank. River flooding is a regular occurrence and the city gained attention for not having a floodwall like its neighbors.

Lima has the world's most paradoxical coastal desert climate. Despite being a tropical latitude, it rarely gets rain due to the cold Humboldt Current offshore. Summers (December–April) are sunny and warm; winters (June–October) are blanketed in garúa — a thick grey mist with drizzle that rarely lifts.
