Lima has the world's most paradoxical coastal desert climate. Despite being a tropical latitude, it rarely gets rain due to the cold Humboldt Current offshore. Summers (December–April) are sunny and warm; winters (June–October) are blanketed in garúa — a thick grey mist with drizzle that rarely lifts.

New Haven on Long Island Sound has a coastal humid continental climate with moderation from the Sound. Yale University's campus is famous for its dramatic seasons — brilliant fall foliage and significant snowfall. Sound breezes cool summers below Hartford's temperatures while nor'easters can produce heavy snow and rain.
