Desert — unique foggy grey winters, warm sunny summers, almost no rain

Lima has the world's most paradoxical coastal desert climate. Despite being a tropical latitude, it rarely gets rain due to the cold Humboldt Current offshore. Summers (December–April) are sunny and warm; winters (June–October) are blanketed in garúa — a thick grey mist with drizzle that rarely lifts.

Oakland sits on the East Bay across from San Francisco and experiences a notably different climate — warmer and sunnier. The Oakland Hills act as a barrier to marine fog, but the bay provides significant cooling. The hills themselves experience dramatically different weather with more fog and wind than the flatlands below.
