Desert — unique foggy grey winters, warm sunny summers, almost no rain

Lima has the world's most paradoxical coastal desert climate. Despite being a tropical latitude, it rarely gets rain due to the cold Humboldt Current offshore. Summers (December–April) are sunny and warm; winters (June–October) are blanketed in garúa — a thick grey mist with drizzle that rarely lifts.

Palm Springs in the Coachella Valley is one of America's hottest resort cities, with summer temperatures regularly topping 115°F. The valley is enclosed by the San Jacinto Mountains to the west and Little San Bernardino Mountains to the north, trapping desert heat. The windmill farms at the valley entrance harness the powerful wind gap flows that also provide some cooling.
