Desert — unique foggy grey winters, warm sunny summers, almost no rain

Lima has the world's most paradoxical coastal desert climate. Despite being a tropical latitude, it rarely gets rain due to the cold Humboldt Current offshore. Summers (December–April) are sunny and warm; winters (June–October) are blanketed in garúa — a thick grey mist with drizzle that rarely lifts.

Rio Rancho is New Mexico's second-largest city and Albuquerque's fastest-growing suburb on the West Mesa plateau. At the same elevation as Albuquerque but west of the Rio Grande, it gets less mountain cooling from the Sandias. The mesa position means strong diurnal temperature swings typical of high desert environments.
