Lima has the world's most paradoxical coastal desert climate. Despite being a tropical latitude, it rarely gets rain due to the cold Humboldt Current offshore. Summers (December–April) are sunny and warm; winters (June–October) are blanketed in garúa — a thick grey mist with drizzle that rarely lifts.

Sacramento has a hot-summer Mediterranean climate with the hottest summers of any major California city, frequently exceeding 100°F. The Delta Breeze — cool marine air pushed through the Golden Gate and delta by inland heating — brings reliable evening cooling and makes hot days more bearable. Winters are mild but the valley fills with thick tule fog for weeks at a time.
