Desert — unique foggy grey winters, warm sunny summers, almost no rain

Lima has the world's most paradoxical coastal desert climate. Despite being a tropical latitude, it rarely gets rain due to the cold Humboldt Current offshore. Summers (December–April) are sunny and warm; winters (June–October) are blanketed in garúa — a thick grey mist with drizzle that rarely lifts.

Santa Monica is one of LA's most climate-privileged neighborhoods, directly on the Pacific with consistent marine layer cooling. The Pier is famous for cool, breezy conditions while inland areas of greater LA swelter. Temperatures rarely exceed the mid-80s°F and marine fog provides natural air conditioning through much of the summer.
