Desert — unique foggy grey winters, warm sunny summers, almost no rain

Lima has the world's most paradoxical coastal desert climate. Despite being a tropical latitude, it rarely gets rain due to the cold Humboldt Current offshore. Summers (December–April) are sunny and warm; winters (June–October) are blanketed in garúa — a thick grey mist with drizzle that rarely lifts.

Shreveport in northwest Louisiana on the Red River is more continental than the Gulf Coast cities. Summers are still brutally hot and humid but winter cold fronts from the Great Plains can be significant. The city is at the transition zone where Gulf moisture meets dry continental air, creating volatile severe weather.
