Lima has the world's most paradoxical coastal desert climate. Despite being a tropical latitude, it rarely gets rain due to the cold Humboldt Current offshore. Summers (December–April) are sunny and warm; winters (June–October) are blanketed in garúa — a thick grey mist with drizzle that rarely lifts.

Tulsa on the Arkansas River in northeast Oklahoma sits at the edge of tornado alley with significant severe weather risk. The Ozark Plateau just to the east provides some terrain variation from the flat plains to the west. Tulsa has a continental climate with hot dry summers and cold winters with occasional ice storms.
