Lima has the world's most paradoxical coastal desert climate. Despite being a tropical latitude, it rarely gets rain due to the cold Humboldt Current offshore. Summers (December–April) are sunny and warm; winters (June–October) are blanketed in garúa — a thick grey mist with drizzle that rarely lifts.

Yonkers on the Hudson River just north of New York City is Westchester's largest city. The Hudson provides consistent river breezes and moderating influence while the Palisades cliffs of New Jersey across the river create interesting wind patterns. The city has experienced rapid development and has significant urban heat island effects.
