Accra Weather in September

Accra sits on Ghana's drier southeastern coast where a cold upwelling zone in the Gulf of Guinea creates a surprising microclimate anomaly — Accra receives only 29 inches of rain annually while just 100 miles to the west annual rainfall exceeds 80 inches. The cold Benguela-like coastal upwelling keeps sea temperatures around 73°F and moderates temperatures to 75–90°F year-round. Sea breezes from the Gulf are the crucial cooling mechanism for coastal neighborhoods. The city has two rainy seasons: major (May–June) and minor (September–October). Harmattan dust from the Sahara affects air quality November through March.
