Bakersfield at the southern end of California's Central Valley has an extreme hot desert climate, with more heat days than even Fresno. The city sees little marine influence from the distant coast and summers are punishing — regularly exceeding 105°F. Winter tule fog is intense and air quality issues are significant year-round.
