Chapel Hill is the University of North Carolina's home city, a college town at the edge of the Piedmont and coastal plain. UNC's Chapel Hill campus with its massive McCorkle Place oak allée is one of the South's most beautiful university settings. The dense tree cover significantly reduces the urban heat island compared to surrounding suburban development.
