Detroit Weather in September

Detroit on the Detroit River between Lake Huron and Lake Erie has lake-effect weather from two of the Great Lakes. The city has a humid continental climate with cold, snowy winters moderated slightly by the lakes and hot, humid summers. The Detroit River creates a weather boundary with Canada and significant industrial development creates urban heat islands.

Excellent shoulder season — warm with fewer tourists in many destinations.
