Gulfport Weather in October

Gulfport on the Gulf of Mexico coast was devastated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The Gulf provides maritime moderation for temperature but the direct Gulf exposure means extreme hurricane storm surge risk. The city has rebuilt with improved infrastructure but the memory of Katrina's 28-foot storm surge defines weather consciousness here.
