Kowloon City's inland position between the former Kai Tak runway and Lion Rock creates a sheltered basin that traps heat during calm summer days. The redeveloped Kai Tak waterfront now channels harbour breezes along the old runway alignment, but the older residential streets to the west remain poorly ventilated.
