Stanley's exposed southern peninsula position makes it one of Hong Kong Island's windiest and coolest coastal areas, with direct exposure to South China Sea swells and breezes. Summer temperatures run 2–3°C below Central, but the lack of shelter means Stanley bears the full force of typhoon winds and storm surge from the south.
