Beyoğlu's steep hillside rising from the Golden Horn creates strong thermal gradients — waterfront Karaköy can be 3–4°C warmer than the İstiklal Avenue ridge on still summer nights due to trapped humidity. The dense 19th-century apartment blocks along narrow streets limit ventilation but the elevated İstiklal corridor catches cross-winds between the Golden Horn and Bosphorus.
