Jacksonville is Florida's largest city by land area, straddling the St. Johns River near the Atlantic coast. The ocean provides some moderation but the city still sees intense summer heat and humidity typical of the Florida-Georgia border region. Afternoon thunderstorms are nearly daily in summer while hurricane season brings tropical storm threats.
