Salt Lake City (Bidhannagar) was built on reclaimed marshland and sits at a very low elevation, making it highly susceptible to waterlogging during monsoon downpours. The planned township's wide roads and sectoral green belts allow better wind penetration than old Kolkata, but proximity to the East Kolkata Wetlands raises ambient humidity levels year-round.
