Shahdara sits across the Ravi River and benefits from river-edge evaporative cooling and open agricultural land to the north that allows cooler rural air to penetrate. However, the Ravi floodplain also generates intense fog in winter, and the area is highly vulnerable to monsoon flooding when the river swells with upstream rainfall.
