Las Vegas in the Mojave Desert has one of the most extreme urban climates on Earth. The Strip's hotels, casinos, and their massive HVAC systems exhaust enormous heat into the desert air, amplifying the already brutal Mojave summer. Temperatures regularly exceed 115°F while the city's rapid sprawl has converted reflective desert to heat-absorbing pavement and building.
