Kothrud climbs the gentle western hills toward the Sahyadri range and receives some of the earliest and heaviest monsoon rainfall in the city due to orographic uplift. The neighborhood's higher elevation of around 590–620 meters provides slightly cooler evenings than the river valley floor, especially during pre-monsoon summer.
