Jung-gu is Seoul's most intensely built downtown core, where Namsan (262m) creates a significant microclimate anchor — its forested slopes cool surrounding blocks by 3–5°C in summer compared to the concrete Myeongdong shopping district at its base. The mountain also deflects prevailing westerly winds, creating sheltered pockets on its eastern lee side.
